Which career subject should you choose after 10th?

which career subject should you choose after 10th?
10th class is considered the turning point in a student's life. The biggest pressure that lies in the minds of every high school student is the stream selection process after 10th grade. Students are often confused about what to take as they have conflicting opinions about every stream. So it is crucial to take the right decision to go for any field after 10th. Since on this age, a student can't make the right decision alone. Some people do say that we should let the student decide about his/her further study based on his/her interest. It seems good in hearing but is it? I think an average student hasn't pretty much idea about the career and interests. So his/her parents/guardians should also help the student by consulting about the jobs and scope on the various fields.
Firstly , sit down & introspect . Write about your likes & dislikes on a piece of paper.
Choosing or thinking and deciding for a career stream after SSC(10th) is really difficult given the wide range of career options available today to suit our personality and IQ.
Please do not feel ashamed of your confusion since this type of confusion exists every where and in almost every body. So just relax and get calm.
After SSC typical the streams to choose are Arts, Commerce and Science. These streams are the base for any graduation or post graduation. All courses in India are linked on the above mentioned streams.
All the above streams are way apart from each other, which take you to a very different way of career. There fore it is very important to choose one of them based on certain thinking and parameters.
Your confusion is quite genuine because at this point of time it seems as if one is standing at a cross road and unable to make out which way to go, so, let me tell you that it is a matter of your own choice and your area of interest. Just peep into your inner-self and try to make out what interests you the most and accordingly choose a stream.

After your class 10 board exams, you stand at the first 'crossroads'. What will you do next? Will you take the road leading to less stress, less study, easy study or travel an extra mile like many?
For the first time in your life, you'll have to face a question that might haunt you all your life, "What are you going to do after this"? This question will pop-up from time to time, whenever you reach an important milestone in your life. Many students find this question very frustrating and intimidating if they are not clear about their career ambitions or how to reach it.

With the end of school life, begins a life where you have to start taking some important decisions. It is important to have a clear career plan for a smooth passage from your school life to a happy professional life. If you don't have an in-depth knowledge of the choices that you have ahead of you, you might end-up in a career that is not made for you. It is common among students going through this transition phase to get influenced by misinformation and end up making wrong decisions.

DECISION MAKING IS A MAJOR SOUGHT AFTER SKILL
An individual's decision making is the most sought after skill in each and every career; no matter which job you do, your success will be based on the reasoning applied behind the decisions you take. This skill is spurred in a student from time to time and it starts right after you finish your 10th grade. Before 10th, the only choice you made was selecting your second language. After 10th, the story changes-- for the first time, you have the steering wheel of your career.
For most of the students, this phase appears like a complex maze with lots of doors leading to different directions, and it becomes difficult to find the door that leads towards the student's dream career. Let us try to look at this maze from above, so that we can connect the doors that will lead you towards your dream.

WHY IS THE CHOICE IMPORTANT?
Many parents ask this question and feel that this is not a very important choice of life and can be taken again after grade 12th. On the contrary, this maybe the first major decision for a student and also one which gives your career a direction. It's always better to start early.
Every student has a unique set of skills, strengths and weaknesses and hence it's very important to take unique decision for every student.

LET US LOOK AT SOME COMMON ISSUES FACED BY STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS AT THIS JUNCTION:
1. CONFUSION FROM TOO MANY OPTIONS:
which career subject should you choose after 10th?
This is one of the biggest problem faced by the parents. If we go back a decade or two, when your parents were in your place, all they had to choose was between mathematics and biology. This is not the case anymore, there are many options available and as it is said, more options mean more chances of making the wrong choice.
2. WHAT TO CONSIDER FOR THE DECISION:

While making any decision in life, you need to keep in mind the consequences of the choice you make. Similarly, after your 10th, you should not only look at the future and make decisions according to the career you want, but you should also consider your past and make the decision based on your strengths and weaknesses.
3. WHICH BOARD TO SELECT:
After 10th, you have the option of sticking to the same education board or going for a different board. This decision should be taken after understanding the difficulty level of every board. For example, if you have studied in the state board till your 10th, you should be ready to face the difficulty if you want to shift to boards like CBSE or IGCSE.
Let us now look at the three major streams you have to select from after 10th standard. At this point, you have to select among one out the following three streams; arts, science & Commerce all these streams lead towards different career scopes.
LET US INDIVIDUALLY LOOK INTO THE STREAMS STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE:
which career subject should you choose after 10th?
1. SCIENCE:
This is the most chosen stream for 10+2 education and offers many lucrative career options including medicine and engineering. It is also popular for the fact that it keeps you options open, i.e. a student is allowed to select commerce or arts after pursuing science in 10+2, while commerce and arts students cannot pursue science.
In science stream, you have to take at least six subjects including one compulsory language. There are many options for subjects like mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, IT, electronics etc. The student should select the subjects that can lead them towards their prospective career.
2. ARTS:
Although, this stream is not so common among students, it holds many exciting career opportunities like journalism, literature, social works, teaching, etc.
In arts stream, you have to select six subjects including one compulsory language and one optional language. Arts offers you a huge list of options to select the remaining four subjects which include, sociology, history, literature, psychology, political science, philosophy, economics etc.
3. COMMERCE:
This is the second most popular choice among students in India. Commerce stream leads towards some of the highest paying and respected jobs like investment banking, chartered accountant, company secretaries, accounts and financial advisor etc.
The three major subjects taught in commerce stream are economics, accountancy and business law or business study. The subjects offered by most commerce colleges include business economics, business law, accountancy, auditing, income tax, marketing, etc. Just like the above two streams, even in the commerce stream the student has to select six subjects including one compulsory language. If you are still confused, you can discover how to simplify this maze by putting the right doors at the right place. Like every other choice, all you need to do is look at the wider picture and take the decision keeping in mind your future aim and your past performance.
I also faced a bit of trouble after 10th to go for a particular subject. Generally, people think that if someone gets good marks in 10th, then he/she should go for science and do preparation for IITs or NEET. But here are some facts which you should know before you decide. I am giving some analysis of some subjects:
1. Science(Maths): Science stream with Mathematics is viral nowadays. The main reason for its popularity is the massive availability of jobs in various areas. Many students of this stream go for airforce, navy, NDA or IITs and NITs (should be declared national crush of the Indian parents: xD)
If someone gets good marks in both science and mathematics in 10th, then everyone advises him/her to go for this stream, and if he gets more and more marks in these subjects, then there are a lot of chances to go for the preparation of JEE.
If you are going to take Science with Mathematics then once consult on these points:
  1. Are you really curious about science or you are going with the flow as most of your class toppers are going in this field?
  2. If you ever feel bored while solving mathematical problems or you haven’t cleared concepts on simple mathematics, then it is better to go away from this stream.
  3. Many students belong to a middle-class family, and they took this subject to get a job early, but later they found no interest in their job, and they returned. I think they should take some other stream and do prepare for other exams. Never go with the flow without any consultation.
2. Science (Biology): This stream is famous for those students who want to be a doctor in future. So most of the students go for the preparation of NEET or AIIMS after 1oth. Some students who are a bit interested in science but are weak in mathematics also take Biology as usual. Most of these students go for a doctor, nursing or other staff in hospitals like lab assistants, teacher or lecturer, etc. Go through this if you are good in biology and chemistry. Physics will give you a bit of trouble during 11th and 12th but don’t worry. You will handle it.
3. Science (Maths+Bio): Some over excited people, who think that we will study hard and get success in both subjects, take this. I also studied biology with mathematics as an additional subject in 11th and 12th. But I want to say that take this step if you are fully dedicated to studying hard. Many students take this subject because they think that they will have more choices after 12th. But I think you will not take much benefit from this. If you are an average student, then I won't suggest you to go through this. If you have any doubt or question related to this step, comment, or DM me.
4. Commerce: most students, whose family is involved in a business or any parental occupation, take commerce. Job opportunities in this field are being CA, college lecturer, or business consultancy.
5. Arts: I haven't enough knowledge about this subject, but if you want to prepare for UPSC further then you can take arts after 10th. Either you are interested in our history, culture, and politics or you want to be a lecturer, teacher, a good politician or a good writer, then you should go for this.
If you want to be a teacher or a lecturer, then you shouldn't go for engineering. Complete your graduation with a right college like Delhi university or many other colleges. For this, you have to achieve good marks in 12th as well.
But if you are taking such a subject which is not in your interest or you are going through that just because all your friends are taking it, then you are making the wrong decision. You will get good marks in 12th in that subject but can't go for higher study with that subject. I strongly recommend you not to take such a subject.
Now I want to give you one real example. One of my cousins took science with mathematics just because my real brother was also taking it. After that, he went for the preparation of IIT-JEE, but he didn’t clear even JEE mains. Now he is pursuing B.Sc. from a private college. But also he failed in the second year of the college.
I hope you understand the importance of taking the right subject after 10th. I will do edit this post frequently after getting enough knowledge of other subjects if needed, and all the reader are also invited to make this answer better. So get knowledge periodically on which career subject should you choose after 10th?
